Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a Title I school where more than 80% of the students are economically disadvantaged. All of my students are English Language Learners. They are ready to learn a new language and are full of energy, curiosity, and questions.
In the mornings, students enter my room with smiles and are excited to learn something new.
They love to use their imagination to create pictures, build structures, and tell stories. As they learn new things, I can see the sparkle in their eyes as they build, create, and learn how to read and write.
My Project
Half of my students are virtual students, and half are learning face-to-face. These two halves of my classroom have never met each other although my face-to-face kids see the virtual kids on the computer every day.
I want both halves of my students to be able to come together, meet each other, and become friends in a fun, creative way.
I am planning for all my students to meet up at the end of the year for a last day of prekindergarten party. I want to do a carnival type of party for them, and that's why I am requesting the snow cone machines.
All my students will be able to enjoy the end of the school party. Even though it will be a non-academic party, my students will be able to practice many skills like social/emotional skills, math skills (colors, numbers, adding) and literacy skills (speak in complete sentences, re-telling stories). This will be a fun way to practice skills learned during the school year.
