PreK Today, Future Leader Tomorrow

Help me give my students some comfortable floor seating and a variety of early learning toys to increase attention and participation during table time tasks.

My Students

My classroom consists of preschool students ages 3-5 years old with a diagnosis of autism and other developmental delays. The school is located in Title I district where a majority of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. There is also a strong English Language Learner population and many of my students have had limited exposure to English. Due to the diagnosis of autism, the students in my classroom often need direct and explicit instruction to learn a variety of skills from sitting in a chair at circle, waiting their turn, using utensils to eat, toileting, to learning letters, colors, shapes, and numbers.

My Project

Each one of the students in my classroom learn in various ways. The materials chosen for my classroom are needed to provide more early learning experiences in a fun way while increasing engagement and attention to tasks. The cause/effect toys will help students learn how to play with toys. The fine motor toys will assist students in developing the skills necessary for writing in the future. The sensory toys will assist students with waiting at their seat until everyone is ready for the next activity. The flexible seating (pillows and toddler chair) will provide an alternative way for those children whose needs require a different way to learn. These tools will help them to reach their learning goals outlined in their IEPs while meeting their individual needs simultaneously.

The items I have chosen for my project are critical to developing the milestones necessary for future academic success.

With the help from generous donors, this project will allow the students to develop independence, increase motivation, improve attention to-task, develop fine motor strength, and reach other essential milestones that they may be delayed in.
