My students need bags to bring books home to read, bins to organize the books in the library and a book to start the school year off right.

My Students
One of my favorite parts of the evening as a child was laying in bed as my mother or father read to me. This fostered a habit of reading in bed that I am still practicing as an adult. Many of my students don't have the books at home to do this with their parents.
There are 18 energetic three and four year old children in my class.
Our school includes students from Pre-k to eighth grade. It is in a high poverty area and about 85% of the students in the school receive free lunch. Our school is in a low-income neighborhood where the budget cuts have made purchasing the things we need difficult.
My Project
Research shows us year after year that a home with books in it creates readers. Our 'Book in a Bag' program enables children in my classroom to choose books on their reading level and take them home to practice with their families. These bags will enable the books to live a longer life.
A classroom library is the heart of an early childhood classroom. The library book bins will help store the book in our classroom library as well as help with organization skills of the children. The bags will be used to borrow classroom books. However the "Pete the Cat Rocks his School Shoes" books will be a first day of school present to jump-start my students' love of reading.
I believe the best way to have children love reading is to get books in their hands.
Providing a well organized library and having a 'Book in a Bag' program is the best way to do this.
