PreK Love Technology

My students need technology in our classroom to support reaching our academic goals. We could use an IPad to create rich technology experiences.

My Students

We are challenged with various behavior issues, so small groups are often used to deflect difficult behaviors and maximize on learning in our classroom.

My students deserve to be prepared to compete with their peers in today’s society.

They are ready and eager to learn new information everyday and I would like to be able to provide them a well rounded school experience.

My students come from a community that is unable to provide current technology in their homes. We are located in Washington, DC and struggling with substantial group achievement gaps. A computer center would aid us in bridging the gap through rigor and lots of practice. My class would strongly benefit from having daily access to modern technology.

My Project

The plan is to create a computer center allowing student to have daily access to practice, reinforce and spend some fun time through technology. Having an ipad would allow my students the opportunity to practice basic skills through repetition, graphic practices, taking turns, navigating a mouse and a touch screen, fine motor skills, negotiate menus, launch apps, creating digital photos and videos. My students would learn and practice technical vocabulary preparing them for a future they deserve. Computers and other technology are just as essential as the use of books.

I took part in an awesome workshop that showed teachers how to conduct a small group by recording themselves on an ipad.

The teacher would give explicit instructions on how to complete an assignment. The students would follow the steps by step instructions given by the teacher from the ipad (without a teacher present in the group). The teacher could even tailor the recordings and possibly redirect students that are known to get off task or assign student in the group to take on certain tasks. It was awesome; it’s like having a couple of assistance in the classroom helping to maximize the learning process.
