My students need posters, puzzles and play materials to help them become more aware of people from different cultures.

My Students
Pre-Kindergarten students learn through play and their favorite places to play are Dramatic Play, Blocks and Table Toys. So why can't they learn about different cultures in these centers?
There are 18 energetic three and four year old children in my class.
My students and their families come from the West Indies and they are now living in an urban setting. Our school includes over 1,500 students from pre-k to eighth grade. It is a Title I school which means many of the families are living below the poverty line and about 95% of the students in the school receive free school lunch.
My Project
Having manipulatives for the different learning centers to help my students learn about different cultures will help my students learn how to become better members of our society.
For Dramatic Play, we need dress up clothes that represent the clothes of girls and boys in different countries. Then, for the Block Center, we need sturdy dolls of people from different cultures to use when the children build communities. We could also use puzzles depicting the lives of families from different cultures for the Puzzles Center.
Although NYC is the most multicultural city in the country, my students know very little about people who are not West Indian.
They rarely venture out of East Flatbush. These toys will help them become more aware of people from different cultures and this will help them become more tolerant and knowledgeable of the people all around them.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
