My Students

What makes our students unique in this classroom, is that they come to us with a blank slate, and we fill their boards with academic knowledge. By the time they leave our classroom, they are writing on their own slates.

We are a Title 1 facility nestled in an urban community that serves the children in the neighborhood.

Considering that we are a Cleveland Public School, our neighborhood has more crime and homicide than the city's statistics. With these odds, our scholars are still on time and ready to learn.

My Project

The purpose to experience purchasing items in the community using money, as well as the concept of saving and personal financial literacy. We participate in a class community that allows children to practice practical life skills across subject areas: math skills, community helpers/awareness, social development, wants vs needs, and financial literacy in a fun and playful way. We want o learn how a community functions together for the greater good.

Experiencing saving, earning money and purchasing items is an important lesson to teach scholars.

The teachers will use this activity as a part of a community unit and build background knowledge of people, jobs, and places in our community: stores, banks, police officers, doctors, gas stations, etc. using the community books.
