My Project
Understanding pregnancy goes far beyond reading about it in a textbook. That’s why I’m requesting an empathy belly— a specially designed, weighted vest that allows students to experience the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy firsthand. This simulator helps both male and female students gain a realistic perspective on what it feels like to be pregnant, including changes in posture, pressure on internal organs, and even mild fetal movement. It’s a powerful way to encourage empathy, awareness, and thoughtful decision-making.
Using the empathy belly will bring our child development and human growth curriculum to life.
Students will not only learn about the symptoms and effects of pregnancy, but actually feel them—making the lesson far more memorable and meaningful. It encourages respectful discussion, builds compassion, and helps teens better understand the responsibilities and realities that come with pregnancy and parenting. This tool creates an unforgettable learning experience that goes beyond the classroom.
