Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a large, urban school district. The students in my school range from preschool to 4th grade. They include children with special needs, hearing impairments, and English language learners. A majority of the children who attend my school come from low-income families. My class for many of my students their first school experience and even though it may be remote I want it to be an exciting experience for my students. Through their experiences in my class, I lay the groundwork for a love of learning and education.
My Project
My students need to develop the fine motor skills for pre-writing. They are learning how to form letters. This year my students are learning remotely and need the the materials to help develop the skills.
With the playdough and tools they develop cutting skills and pincher grasp needed to hold writing and drawing skills.
Some of my students are only 3 and/or have special needs and need to word on developing hand strength. Working with playdough helps develop these skills.
For my students who will be going to kindergarten next year they need to be ready to write. In preschool we are teaching them how to form letters. With the letter cards, wixi sticks and playdough they can practice forming letters.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
