Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I'll forget; Show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand." Chinese Proverb
Our preschool students are amazing 3-5 year olds who are predominantly African American and Latino/a.
They attend a half-day preschool program in an elementary school that ranges from pre-k to 8th grade. The school is located on the southwest side of Chicago. We have the brightest and loveliest students in the city, and our students appreciate new learning opportunities.
My Project
The preschool students at my school will have the opportunity to travel to the Lincoln Park Zoo. We are about to start a unit on spring, trees and animal habitats. By visiting the zoo, students will observe animals in their natural habitats. Through exploration and observation, we know our students will gain new interests and begin to ask us questions.
Many of our students have not been afforded the opportunity to visit the zoo or any other museums in the city.
We believe that young children thrive when they experience things firsthand. This trip will be a starting point to a great investigation on animals and how they eat, live and survive.
