Pre-K Zoo Improvements

My Students

My classroom is filled with smiles and laughter from four and five year old boys and girls. I teach pre-kindergarten in rural Oklahoma. My students are from a variety of different backgrounds. Some live on a farm in the country while others live in town.

In my pre-kindergarten classroom, our motto is “The more you practice, the better you get!” We work hard every day to learn new things and practice what we already know.

I even use this motto as a call back. I say “The more you practice…. They complete the phrase “the better you get!” We use our motto to work toward improving our behavior, the way we speak to our classmates and other teachers, as well writing our names, letters, and numbers.

COVID-19 has significantly impacted learning over the past two years. Along with everyday challenges, we are now experiencing new situations such as virtual learning, wearing masks, and quarantines. As a pre-k teacher, my students are coming to school for the very first time in their public school career. Every day, my heart yearns to provide a classroom environment that promotes safety and provides normalcy for each child I teach.

My Project

I have used the Letters Alive program in my classroom throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in both Zoom classroom and live classroom settings. My students get so excited when they get to meet a new animal from the Letters Alive Zoo. Having the Math Alive program to supplement the Letters Alive ELA program in my classroom would provide exciting lessons and promote student engagement.

At this time, I do not have a complete math curriculum.

In the past, I’ve used various worksheets and manipulatives from different sources. Math Alive would allow me to teach our state standards using a unified and consistent approach. My students could learn numbers and shapes from a fresh and fun program that implements augmented reality. This program would be an awesome improvement to learning in my pre-k zoo classroom!
