Help me give my students Science Instant Learning Centers and microscopes to aid them in developing their science skills and to encourage these young scholars to explore, make discoveries and think scientifically.

My Students
My students are inquisitive, kind, entertaining, resourceful, and enthusiastic 4 year olds. This is the first time they are in a school setting so nearly every experience is new to them. Try to imagine walking into a classroom where every child is excited about what they will learn or what they will do each day. That is my experience. I am honored to be part of these children's lives as they learn about themselves, their peers and the world around them.
My students are considered "at-risk" because they come from low income households.
"At -risk" children need ongoing instruction and support to succeed academically. Our school is in a very diverse neighborhood with a variety of linguistic and cultural representations. There are 11 different languages spoken among my students so not only are each of them navigating a new educational setting but they are learning English during the process. I know children at this age learn best through play so all of my students are consistently engaged in a wide variety of fun activities to help them develop social and academic skills necessary for a smooth transition into Kindergarten.
My Project
For young learners, science is just an extension of their everyday world. I don’t have to teach my students how to wonder, discover, and explore during play because they do it naturally. I want them to take those same skills and apply it to a variety of topics in science so they learn about things such as magnets, bugs, plants, weather and animals. I know when my students have the proper scientific materials such as microscopes, binoculars and viewfinders, they will begin to see themselves as scientists as they acquire new knowledge and make connections to the world around them.
I understand that exploration, experimentation and deep discussions can transform a class of children into a community of future scientists.
Preschoolers are often curious about how things work and want to know the answer to one question -"WHY?" With your donation to Pre-K Scholars Curious About Science you can help these young children access some of those answers on their own as they learn to implement the scientific process of making observations, asking questions, predicting what might happen, experimenting and then explaining what they've found out. Using My First Journals the children will record and share their learning with me, peers and their parents giving them opportunities to develop their literacy and oral language skills.
