Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a city where crime rates are high, and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with the same creative and meaningful learning experiences that other students are able to have.
Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My students, although only three and four years-old, are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.
My Project
My students learn best from playing and hands-on activities. Over time, many of the building materials and manipulatives have been destroyed from general wear and tear. Building is a way students can be imaginative while using STEAM skills and cooperative play.
3D magnetic builders would be a great tool to have students experiment with shapes while using higher order thinking skills.
Following directions building set will also be helpful to use their imagination as well as use simple directions to create everything from a 3D duck to an 8 piece motorcycle.
I am also requesting learning lacers to help students develop hand eye coordination and early counting skills. This kit includes the ability to sort by color, shape as well as counting.
Lastly, I am requesting a big bolt construction set to give my students the introduction to tools which improves planning skills and motor skills. I am requesting storage totes to store all these new materials.
