This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

An Indonesian artist once said, "Art is thought expressed through the hands." Through this grant I hope to provide my students with washable tempera paint for use in their classroom art center and easel.

I have 34, preschool age students, who are predominantly from a Latino/Hispanic background with a few African/American students.

For many of them, their first language is Spanish and unfortunately, they are living within the poverty guidelines. However, they are extremely enthusiastic about coming to school everyday and learning new things. They're in need of the experiences that every child deserves. I hope by providing them with paint for daily use they will enhance their artistic abilities and creativity. The paint will actually serve two preschool classrooms at our school, which will give painting opportunities to 64 children daily.

My Project

Currently the students have little or no supply of washable tempera paint. With the paint the students will be able to study various artists/paintings and create paintings related to various painters/artists. The materials will be used specifically for painting on the classroom easel and art center. The way preschool students convey meaning is through art and pictures, so use of paint is necessary for daily use.

Having these materials in the classroom is so important for instructional purposes and daily use because it will help my students with hands-on learning, convey meaning through art and writing, and enhance artistic and creative skills.
