Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in our classroom involves our students coming in, having breakfast and morning meeting and then we break to go to centers. One center will consist of art and that art will focus on our letter, number or shape of the week. Sometimes we have two groups participating in an art project.

My students are amazing, and I am not just saying that because I am their teacher.

Our school is located in one of the most dangerous and low income neighborhoods, the demographic is Hispanic families, many of which are single parents or have no education themselves. Our school really tries to work with our families and provide the support and resources to better assist their children at home and in the classroom. My students absolutely love coming to school and they truly enjoy learning and engaging in activities.

My Project

We need colored construction paper, jumbo pencils and a drying rack for our group time. These materials will help out tremendously since Pre-K really focus on teaching students skills like, coloring, painting and cutting. We really value art in our classroom and our students love to see their work on the walls, they are very proud of it. Students will work one on one with either myself or teaching assistant to do letter activities involving art, its a great way to incorporate letter recognition and phonemic awareness.

As I mentioned before, we love to hang up our work around the classroom and in the hall way, without these supplies it will make completing art projects very difficult.

I feel that my student really love seeing their work hanging up, it gives them more confidence that they can do the work or activity and it makes the environment very colorful, fun and positive. I want them to be able to express themselves using art and enhance their artistic capabilities.
