Help me give my students face masks where we can see each other's mouths moving to help create a healthy school community during our return to school during COVID-19.
Our students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, and engaging projects that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are our inspiration!
Our school is located in West Harlem (Title I district).
Our student population is diverse and includes Hispanic, African American, Black, Caucasian, Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian), Biracial, ENL (English as a New Language), and IEP (Individualized Education Program) students. Diversity within our school is something we embrace and nurture.
My Project
As we are returning to school in the fall, I have done a lot of brainstorming about how I can make my Pre-K classroom feel like a community during COVID-19 times. Having masks in the way of the students communicating with each other is such an extreme barrier. All they get to see is each other's eyes. In a grade where we discuss emotions, react to each other's emotions, and show our strong emotions, this is extremely difficult for the kids to connect to one another. This is where my idea of clear face masks came into play.
These clear face masks will help create a healthy classroom community during our return to school in the fall during COVID-19.
These masks will be absolutely incredible for them! Being able to see their warm and adorable smiles through those masks each day after all of this craziness will be such a blessing. Thank you all so much!
