Pre K Friends Grow and Discover

My students need hands-on materials to help them learn and explore, such as tongs, pattern cards, counters, and more. The materials will help to build hand strength while being engaged in a fun activity.

My Students

In September, I will be teaching Pre K in a NYC public school. I will be teaching 13 students and in hopes of instilling a love of learning and exploring through learning centers and play. For many, this will be their first school experience and I hope to develop authentic learning centers that will provide them not only with excitement to come to their class each day, but with authentic learning opportunities.

Please help me to create the type of classroom that encourages learning through play and exploration.

My Project

The materials that are being requested will encourage the children to learn and discover through play. The plastic cutting tools that will be used with the play dough will help to build hand strength which is so important when learning to write.

In addition, the sift and find sea shell letter and numbers will help with letter and number recognition and hand eye coordination.

I am planning on making a answer sheet where once the children find the shell they will find the matching picture on the sheet. As time goes on, I will use this to introduce letter sounds. For example, as the child finds the letter shell they will say the sound of the letter before putting it on the and we sheet.

I plan on doing something similar with the number shells. The answer key will at first be to match the shells. As time goes on, the key will have the word form of the number or a picture set of the number will be used on the answer sheet for the child to match.

The magnetix designer will help with hand eye coordiation while being engaging. The supplies will be used in small groups which will not only provide opportunities for learning but also for conversations, sharing and discovering. Having my project funded will benefit my Pre K students and provide them with opportunities to learn and discover through fun, engaging, hands on experiences.
