Pre-K! Exploring with Science!

My students need manipulatives, games and tools to continue to encourage their love of learning and exploring.

My Students

I am teaching Pre K in a NYC public school. I have 13 students and I am trying to help foster my students' expressive language, reading skills, problem solving skills and their love of discovering and asking questions. For many, this is their first school experience and it is the perfect opportunity to not only encourage my students to read books and talk about them, but also to help them build their confidence as speakers, listeners, learners, and explorers. This will be accomplished by having the students continue to listen to books being read, exploring by using a microscope and a balance scale, and playing games. The academic based language will be introduced through the childrens' self directed explorations in the centers. Adding games, manipulative and explorations toys to all centers will encourage and foster each childs' learning. I want to instill a love of learning and risk-taking that will last each of them a lifetime!

My Project

My class is composed of 13 eager to learn children. Since September, I have watched them grow and develop a love of learning. It is through their centers that they are learning and exploring. I am excited to be able to introduce a water table that will encourage my students to measure, pour and make predictions. The water marbles are amazing. My students love to hold them and it encourages them to use descriptive language to explain what it feels like. The microscope and balance scale will help to foster academic based language and encourage each of my students' inquisitive nature. When I was little I would have loved to be able to use a microscope and a balance scale! The magnetic animals and magnet wands can be used in the Science center and the Math center. In addition the magnet wands can be used with my sensory bottles. The mosaic magnet board, I think will be a new favorite of my class. While they are building and creating I will be able to help them learn shapes and to decompose shapes. The plastic animals will be a great addition to my block area! They can build homes for the animals while they play. The possibilities are endless and I am so appreciative of having the opportunity to work with my students and introduce them to their future.
