Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Preschoolers do not understand budget cuts. They want to count, learn and play. We are at a Title one school in a large urban area with severe poverty, crime, and violence. My students count on me to provide them with enriched activities that will prepare them for Kindergarten.
My students are energetic preschoolers that have Autism and an array of other disabilities.
Many of my students are second language learners that need visual aids and hands on activities. My students attend a public school in California where all of the students receive free lunch. The district that my students live in does not have extra money to purchase other materials and counting manipulative's to enhance the students learning. The students will use these products to gain an understanding of counting, one to one correspondence and number recognition.
My Project
I believe in Mathematic education. I believe that young children should have just as much time for math as they do for literacy each day. A math center in my classroom will invite my students to explore numbers and their value. My students need: Teddy Counters, Jumbo Magnetic Counters and Numbers, and a Numbers & Counting Theme Box. The Size and Color Teddy counters are hands on manipulative's that are small enough to fit it their small hands and they will reinforce counting skills, one to one correspondence and fine motor skills. The Size and Color Counters will also be used for sorting, patterning and matching activities. The Learn to Count! Picture Puzzles will help my students develop early counting skills. The puzzles will help my students to self correct and gain a sense of accomplishment when they complete the task. The puzzles will challenge my students to count, explore number value and recognition while helping them to develop their fine motor skills and language development.
Preschoolers with Autism need concrete visual methods to learn number concepts.
They need hands on material to associate numbers with objects. I want to create a math center for my students that will provide them sensory, visual and tactile support that they need to learn. All of the items listed above will help my students. Thank you for taking an interest in my special little population of preschool students. Your donation will make bring many smiles.
