This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My focus this year with my students that have special learning needs is on climate change, how we are all being affected by it, and the practices we can follow to help lessen our carbon footprint. Being able to sustainably grow food is one of these practices.

This hydroponics growing system will help us grow 30 plants using only 2 square feet of space and 95% less water in only 5 weeks!

We can even do this through the cold winter months because this system is like a mini greenhouse. We will be able to use the growing system to work on skills across several contents and share our harvest bounty with the 9th grade community!

HOW WE WILL LEARN:

We will track the growth of the plants and graph it (math skills), we will understand how the hydroponics system grows (science skills), and will write about how changes such as hydroponic growing can help our environment (writing skills).
