This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This fall, 20 Muñiz Academy 10th graders took their first college-level class through a program called Early College. Early College is a program that offers a series of free college classes to high school students as well thorough academic and non-academic support.
Nearly all of the students in our Early College program will be the first in their families to go to college, and so getting college experience before they graduate high school is hugely impactful in building college-going identities and skills.
It also will save students money, as this program will help students earn college credits for free that will transfer to whichever university they choose to attend after high school.
This fall, students were enthusiastic about taking their first college class, and they worked hard to complete it. However, many of them struggled with time management and organization. I would like to buy planners and planner stickers for the 20 Early College students for them to use in their next college class. If we are able to purchase these materials, I will use them to run a workshop on time management and organization so that students are able to use the planners effectively.
