Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is known for assisting students with multiple nationalities, backgrounds, languages, and talents. Students are learning to reacquaint themselves in learning face-to-face that will allow them an opportunity to be challenged and get back to some sort of normalcy. Every student, regardless of their background, should be welcomed and should know that school is a safe haven where they can learn to develop coping skills and an insight into college preparedness. By greeting each student with a warm smile and kind gesture, students know that they are loved and cared for and that we are here to help them thrive in this difficult environment.
I am working as a Math Strategist at a Title I STEAM school in Las Vegas.
All students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, and some may take home a weekend sack of food. In addition, students are dealing with emotional challenges and are also lacking the skills to write on paper and pencil.
Regardless of some distance learning challenges; every student should be helped in dealing with COVID-19. Students are coping with the aftermath of distancing and some are having family financial hardships from loss of jobs or family members.
My Project
Since our Covid epidemic, we have seen students struggle to normalcy and we need to rebuild their stamina and grit by providing them with their own school supplies. The last time students were in school was almost a year and a half ago and a lot of them that struggled through online learning has fallen behind.
We need to close the gap through intervention and students need whiteboards, dry erasers, and dry eraser markers.
In addition, they need to use clear sleeves to practice number sense and place value. These items are will be used with small group intervention and to have their own materials.
As I travel from classroom to classroom, I am able to give additional intervention without making students feel awkward. They all look forward to this interaction time as much as I do.
