Practice Makes Permanent! The Making of a Quiz Bowl Team!

My students need practice buzzers, practice questions, and flashcards in order to prepare to be a winning quiz bowl team!

My Students

My students are WONDERFUL. But I guess all teachers say that, right? I have the pleasure of coaching the Academic Quiz Bowl team comprised of 15 7th and 8th graders at an inner city charter school in Atlanta, GA. My student population is 99% African American and 77% receive free or reduced-price lunch. They range in age between 10 and 14, but of course they want to know everything about the world.

My students attend a school that is preparing them to go to and through college by spending a whopping ten hours at school daily, plus two hours of homework nightly.

They are dynamic, challenging, bright, and humorous young people whose hard work has made our school the number one school in our district and a Georgia School of Excellence. My students are not only wonderful; they are the next generation of scientists, lawyers, politicians, and world changers!

My Project

In order to become one of the best quiz bowl teams in the Metro Atlanta area, we have to have the right preparation materials! We have 15 excited 7th and 8th grade scholars ready to put in the work needed to become a winning quiz bowl team!

Each student will be assigned a pack of flashcards to memorize, and we will rotate the flashcards as students memorize their content.

Then, at practices, we will use the buzzers and practice questions to practice buzzing faster and getting exposure to a variety of questions. With these materials, my scholars will become competitive with some of the dynamic quiz bowl players in the state!
