My students attend a Title I school in a high needs area where they receive free breakfast and lunch each day. My 3rd grade class will consist of students with disabilities. They are motivated to learn but do not have appropriate workbooks. Many of these students live in poverty and have limited or no exposure to books outside of school. It is my job to teach them to read and nurture a love for books. Fund this project and my students will have the tools to begin to learn to read.
My Project
The 3rd grade special needs students in my class are reading at a Kindergarten level. They have all expressed a desire to improve their reading and writing. They are unable to enjoy books and read grade level text. They want to learn to read but have never been directly taught. This year we are using a multi sensory intervention program, The Wilson Reading System. The program has a systematic approach to teaching reading.
We need the Wilson Reading System workbooks that go with the program so that the students can practice and perfect the skills they are learning.
