This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the great privilege of teaching P.E. at my school as well as coaching a basketball team comprised of 5th and 6th Grade boys. I also support our school's AD by assisting with the additional basketball teams which represent my school. Many of these student-athletes are playing basketball for first time. They have the opportunity to learn true teamwork and compete in a positive and challenging environment. We've been blessed with success as a few of our teams have even won the city championship in recent seasons.

I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.

My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive to school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. Each classroom in our school has their college graduation date written on the board. We help the students set their goals high and we strive to help them achieve them.

My Project

My student-athletes are in need of a few high-quality basketballs that resemble the balls that we play with during our games. "Practice Makes Perfect" is an important motto of our basketball team and we want to make our practice as game-like as we can. These new basketballs would give our student-athletes the chance to practice with the same basketball they will play with, rather than having to adjust to a new type of ball each time we play a game.

These basketballs will improve my student-athletes' ability to play, better prepare them for their games, and lead to better performances in competition.

We strive to give our students the best chance for success. We want them to succeed with their basketball goals and more adequately preparing them to play is a crucial part of that process. These basketballs will benefit over 100 students spread across our basketball program. I am confident that our game performance will improve dramatically if we can practice with the same materials we will play with. This is the project that will make that happen.
