Practice Makes Masters!! Math Centers

My students need hands-on materials for math centers, such as a visual mathematics dictionary, a measurement center, and an easel, to be able work on during tutorials or during class time in small groups to master math concepts!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kilcrease's classroom raised $500

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Picture your Middle School Math classroom! Was it being able to move around and "play" to learn your math concepts or was it sitting in a desk listening and working on boring worksheets? Well I would like to have the materials for my 8th graders to be able to engage in math activities!

My students are hungering for love and a way to express themselves in school.

Most of my students are surrounded by a second language that sometimes makes it difficult to understand what is being taught due to a language barrier, not a lack of intelligence. I teach at a Title 1 school and our middle school students sometimes believe that "Math" is hard and because their parents have not bettered themselves with education, they will not either. I want to show the students how we use math everyday, and find a way to make math click in their lives.

My Project

They will be able to show many representations of a single fraction, and how it differs with the size of the object with the polygons. They can work in groups on the Whiteboard Easels because my classroom only has a small whiteboard that is half covered with the projector. When they finish early on an assignment, instead of sitting or reading a book, they can be "playing" on the fast finisher table with some of the items like the card game to enhance their skills. These materials will give my students the option to get out of their seats and visually see math concepts. They will be able to teach each other what they are learning and express their thoughts by showing what they are thinking with these materials.

My students have the ability to grasp math.

They have the ability to feel successful when it comes to using their math skills. With these materials, my classroom will give our 8th graders the confidence to master the 8th grade state standards, and to have a leg up on Algebra for High School!!
