This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Within the beautiful community of Jackson Heights, N.Y., I have the privilege of working with very enthusiastic, and ambitious, young learners. My students are engaged in a dual language program, in which, we aim to become successful learners in English and in Spanish. This school year, we are preparing for a blended learning model of both in-person and remote teaching. I am as determined as my students to ensure they have the tools necessary to continue doing their best learning.
My Project
With our rapidly changing learning environments, it is imperative to provide students with tools that will provide effortless access to curriculum. Receiving the chromebooks requested will make it possible for my students to continually engage in lessons and activities that will support their learning in school and at home. Having the chromebooks available will not only allow me to provide students with access to content that is essential to their learning, but to gain knowledge of skills necessary to continue the learning at home. The chromebooks will allow students to practice accessing and utilizing the apps and digital tools that will be used during blended learning (a combination of in-person and remote learning). As well, opportunities to utilize chromebook apps for new and innovative ways for students to collaborate with peers (such as using video conferencing tools within the chromebook to allow for in-person and remote learners to work in pairs or small groups). For my students, these chromebook will not only enhance content learning with access to countless academic apps and websites, continue developing fine motor skills with the touch screen tool, alongside use of the keyboard, strengthen dual language development with available translation digital tools, but also help me support essential social emotional needs with webcam and microphone features. Essentially, these chromebooks will help me POWERUP our learning!
