My students need a laptop that can be used for our lab stations. Having a portable computer will allow my students to directly hook sensors to collect data efficiently.
This year I teach three classes of Chemistry and two classes of Physics. In our classroom, we have six lab stations with 35 to 40 students per class. Having only one functional desktop computer is not enough to serve all of them especially during laboratory work.
When my class set our goals on the first day of school all of my students said that they want to do good in science and pursue college later on.
As a teacher it means so much to me that these diverse group of students are willing to give their best in my class. Most of them are enthusiastic in learning chemistry and physics despite our challenges. Having additional resources in our class especially for our laboratory activities will make surely make difference in their learning.
My Project
With a laptop my students can efficiently collect and download data from the six lab stations that we have in class. It will allow my students to maximize their time during experiments. With one computer right now, it takes time for each group to process their data and work on it as a group. This might a be a simple resource but it can definitely make our science lessons more efficient, engaging and effective.
Every year I teach five classes of science and I am proud to say that all of them graduate high school and continue on to 4-year college or community college.
Even some of them choose to be science majors. I truly believe that as a high school science teacher, I face the challenge of exposing and engaging my students in learning science. The use of technology is a crucial aspect in my teaching and the students' learning. It definitely plays a huge part in honing their skills for the future.
