My Students

What do kids really care about? Animals and pets!

My students come from a high-poverty area of Washington State.

They typically perform below grade level on state tests and have little to no experience with books. What do they love? Their pets! Kids love animals, even if they don't have a pet at home. Kids want to succeed, they want to learn and grow! I want to give them the opportunity to improve reading with interesting books.

My Project

These books are amazing! They are all about things kids love- animals and pets. These books are easy to read, bright and colorful. Kids are sure to love reading and re-reading books about hamsters, birds, cats, dogs, snakes, and other great pets. Included are also books on how to take care of pets, as well as fiction books about class pets and funny pets. All great books kids will want to read!

My students generally perform below grade level on assessments, which means they are not readers!

They are reading well below grade level! I need my students to love reading so they will have powerful lives. Reading is the key to success, and I want all of my students to be successful!
