it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of my top goals as a reading teacher is to nurture a love of reading for my students. One way to do this is by providing books that they are excited to read! This project is full of books that my students have requested often, or I'm sure they'll love.
Fifth grade is a time that many students are beginning to understand deeper issues in the world or even experience these issues in their own worlds.
Because of this, I made a point to select books that represent many demographics to ensure that students see themselves in the books they read and to ensure they are reading about the world from others' perspectives. This helps shape students into more compassionate, kind individuals.
Lastly, there are many high interest nonfiction books throughout this list in order to peak students' interest as we dive into our nonfiction unit. Nonfiction is typically a more difficult genre to get students excited about, but these books are sure to capture students' interest!
