This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a perfect example of the "at-risk" students in our population. All of the families in my classroom are classified as socio-economically disadvantaged and qualify for free lunch. The majority of the class (78%) are classified as ELs and, according to Dibels BOY scores, all but one of my students are performing a way-below benchmark. Now that we’re learning from home, my students need extra tools to support their learning!
My students are funny, eager to learn, and motivated!
They do not let their disadvantages discourage them from learning about the world around them. They are aware of their faults, however, they understand that they can only move forward. They are not afraid to make mistakes because they know that it is a step towards learning.
My Project
My students have been learning from home using iPads provided by the school. Now that we are transitioning back to being in the classroom, one of the problems the students will face is their iPads running on low battery. Additionally, it will become a safety hazard if there are wires running to each individual desk to allow for them to plug in their device.
I would like to provide my students an individual portable charger that they will keep at their desks to prevent their iPads running out of battery.
My plan is to have the chargers in a designated charging spot in the classroom where they will take them in the morning and plug them back into when they leave for the day. The students use the iPads as an extension for their learning in all subjects (Math, ELA, ELD, Science, Social Studies, Art, etc.)
