Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The computer lab is a very popular place in our school. Our students are eager to participate in computer classes, and many sign up for our after-school computer program. They not only develop digital learning skills, they also become empowered to participate ethically and responsibly in the digital world.

Our school’s nearly 520 students from Pre-K to 5th grade are mostly English language learners who come from low-income homes.

The cultural make-up of our school is as follows: 88% Latino (Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Ecuador), 10% are African or African-American; and 2% are Asian or Polish. More than half of our students are part of after-school programs that allow them to be active, express themselves on stage, or develop their skills in reading, writing and math.

My Project

My scholars use iPads to support their learning in all subjects. With more power adapters and surge protectors, they can continue to use technology to learn without having their iPads run out of power.

What do digital citizens do when the power on their tablet is down to 3%?

We don't have enough chargers to keep our iPads powered up. With more power adapters and chargers, learning won't have to be interrupted in order to charge up the iPads. These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning and improve their use of technology. They will no longer have to wait for an available power adapter in order to charge up their iPads. Young digital citizens shouldn't have to wait to power up in order learn.
