Help me give my students a sensory swing to be used during occupational therapy, cause and effect toys, a weighted blanket for sensory input and a lamp to assist in appropriate lighting in my room.

My Students

My children have all been classified with Autism. Children with Autism learn differently. The majority of my children come from a low socioeconomic background, which puts them at risk for being disadvantaged.

Every child has the right to learn, explore, and experience life to the best of their ability.

As their teacher, I promise to advocate for my students to have the same educational advantages as other children in surrounding towns.

In recent years, there has been a drastic cut of funding for our district and, without you, these children will not be given the same opportunities as other children. With your help, I can provide the best educational opportunity possible and have materials for my children to learn through play. Our learning may look different and my students need differentiated materials and thanks to you, they can get them!

My Project

My children with Autism crave various sensory expierences. The snuggle swing can be used to strengthening the proprioceptive system. The proprioceptive input will increase spatial awareness and have an overall calming effect on the students. Sensory input from cuddling and swinging calms the body. The weighted blanket will provide pressure and sensory input for individuals with autism.

Play is powerful.

Cause and effect toys work well as rewards for positive behavior, pushing the button and they get a result. They are also stimulating for children with autism because they signal an ability to bring force and in turn they have an influence on the environment.
