Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in an area of poverty. Many of our students come from homes where English is their second language, and almost all of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We are a magnet school that specializes in Environmental Science.
Our students make us smile every day!
They love school and I think I learn from them more than they learn from me. My passion is learning new ways to challenge them, to teach them creativity and to use technology resources to achieve those goals.
My Project
There have been so many sudden changes in education this year. We switched to remote learning overnight and it has caused a lot of stress for teachers and students. Morale in our school is going to be something we will have to focus on more as we return in the fall.
Teaching is a challenging job.
Teachers have to balance the requirements of their students, parents, administration and their colleagues. The focus on building positive teams and a positive culture is really going to help make the job easier.
My plan is to lead a book club with teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators where we can discuss how to implement the ideas in this book. It talks about ways that sports teams and corporations maintain a culture where everyone is comfortable contributing and give people a voice in developing a campus culture. There are specific activities like One Word Resolutions that we do as a campus to keep things positive.
