My Project
I teach a special education class full of amazing students who learn in different ways and bring so much joy into the classroom every day. My goal is to create a space that helps them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
For this project, I’m asking for basic classroom supplies like pencils, paper, dry erase markers, and pens so students can complete their work without worry.
I also included snacks like Cheez-Its and Gushers for students who come to school hungry or need a little something to stay focused throughout the day.
To help with focus and self-regulation, I added sensory tools like fidget toys, calming tubes, sensory mats, pop fidgets, and liquid sensory tubes. I plan to use some of these items to create a calm-down corner where students can reset when they’re feeling overwhelmed.
Visual aids like picture schedules, emotion charts, and behavior keyrings will support my nonverbal students and help everyone understand routines and expectations. These tools give students a way to communicate and feel more in control of their day.
Two bean bag chairs will go in the calm-down corner so students have a soft, cozy place to take a break or work quietly.
To support learning and communication, I added CVC word games, phonics flash cards, and picture word activities. I also included a Montessori-style sorting and counting game to support fine motor skills and early academics.
Each item in this project was chosen with care to meet my students’ unique needs and help them grow in confidence and independence every day.
