My Project
My students are bold, thoughtful seniors who thrive when they can engage with stories that reflect the real world while also pulling them into gripping plots. Ace of Spades is the kind of book that does both—it’s a page-turner full of suspense, but it also tackles big, important questions about race, privilege, and institutional power.
We’re asking for 25 copies of Ace of Spades so that every student can have their own book to annotate, mark up, and take ownership of as they read.
This novel will allow us to explore themes of identity, social injustice, and resistance in a way that feels immediate and relevant. The main characters, Devon and Chiamaka, are dealing with secrets and systems that work against them—making this a powerful jumping-off point for classroom conversations and writing. Having individual copies will allow us to slow down, annotate deeply, and build analytical skills that prepare students for college-level reading and thinking.
