Poverty to Success is One Step Away: College Books Needed

My students need 5 books containing college information and 2 books on scholarships and grants.

This project is fully funded

Currently I am teaching AP Calculus to seniors. I am teaching in a critical needs, high poverty area. My students have been given very little information on colleges outside of MS. They also know very little about scholarships and funding.

My students face a horrific cycle of high school drop-outs and teenage pregnancy. They aren't expected to leave high school and if they do, they are in no way prepared for college. This needs to change. These students have been given so little, but the current 12th graders that I teacher work hard and can succeed in any higher institution, given the opportunity to get there.

I desperately need books to tell my students of amazing schools outside of Mississippi. They need to know what there is in the real world. They need to know what majors are offered and what there is to do besides majoring in nursing or business. This project I am trying to get funded will allow my students to hear of many opportunities that they never dreamed existed.

You have the opportunity to help my students learn of what awaits them. They do not have to stay where they are and continue to take part in this viscious cycle. They need to take a step and move on but without knowing what is out there, they will not be able to. With you donation, they will be able to take this step at furthering not only their eduction but also contributing to the global community.
