This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The public high school I teach at is in an urban, high need community. My students are very creative 9th-12th graders which include special education students in several classes.
We are down to eight 50 lb. boxes of clay for five ceramics class, each class has thirty students, and are in need of more to complete the year. The budget in the district is tight and does not allow for the purchase of any more clay this year. With the productivity of the students so far this year we have gone through most of the clay and will be out completely soon. I am using the pug mill to reclaim as much clay as possible and keep students working.
A donation of clay will carry us to the end of the year enabling students to fulfill the class requirements. We have learned half of the hand building techniques required for the first year student and have a way to go in order to be sure everyone knows the basics of working with clay.
The clay donation will keep us working until June. Beginner students will be able to complete the course requirements of several hand building techniques and throwing on the potters wheel. Advanced students will have the freedom to continue working on their
classroom projects and pursue their own ideas. The donation of this essential supply will benefit all students working in clay for the remainder of the year.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
