My Students
I teach in a Title I school, and most of my students come from low income homes. I am their Family and Consumer Science teacher. Many of my students have a hunger to learn how to cook and learn life skills that they will hold onto for life. Many of my students are very wonderful and curious children who want to see the world through food and create things with their own two hands.
As their teacher, I want to foster this hunger through engaging, interactive, and hands-on lessons.
I believe that half of learning comes from a book and the other half by applying that knowledge to a hands-on activity. I want to share my knowledge and passion of my subject that lights a spark of inspiration in my students.
My Project
This project is to help start up our first classroom garden. I want to teach my Home Economics students to grow fresh produce from seed. Along with growing vegetables I plan on having them grow herbs. I would also like to start growing and hosting Aloe Vera plant sales to help generate funding for my classes.
Gardening feeds the stomach, heart, and mind.
From my personal experience with gardening and raising plants over the last few years it has shown me that you can learn a lot about nature along with finding ways to relax and reconnect to the world around you.
