I have been at my school for 4 years now and sadly, it’s not in our budget to buy many glazes. My students love ceramics and are passionate about the class and their projects. Glazing is the final stage of pottery. It’s the “paint” you apply that makes the pieces glossy and food/water safe. It’s a crucial part of pottery.
We have been recycling the same glazes the last few years and you can only recycle a glaze so many times before the color and effects just aren’t the same.
I want my students to be able to choose from more options and be proud of their projects after they’re glazed, not just the bisqueware stage.
I have had students create a project they love but then end up not liking the project after glazing due to the lack of glaze color options or the glazes reacting funky due to the amount of times they’ve been reworked.
Having more glazes will affect the current students but also those of years to come because they typically last awhile. This will also hopefully encourage more students to keep taking the class or to join for the first time.
