This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have come into high school behind grade level but these students are not quitters. We have a strong culture of achievement and encourage all students to prepare for and apply to college.

Were you to walk down the halls of my school, you might think you are in the United Nations.

We have students from five continents (and more than that from a number of islands) representing a diverse array of languages and cultures. My students are a mix of new immigrants and native born Americans. All of them want to succeed.

My Project

I am asking for a few miscellaneous items that are needed in my classroom now that the semester is in full swing. The specific items are rare-earth magnets, 3/4 inch wooden cubes, and printer toner. None of these is particularly expensive or fancy, but they all relate directly to my students' ability to complete projects for the semester.

An example of our need is the rare-earth magnets, which we will embed in our 3D prints, to get pieces to hold together without gluing.

3D printers actually print items hollow, with a lattice for strength and support. It's nice trick to pause the print, slip in a small magnet, and then finish printing the item. Nobody would know there's a powerful magnet inside the printed object. The use of hidden magnets lets structures come apart and be reassembled.

We also need printer toner, so students can print out their essays and reference materials. I have also included a bag of wooden cubes in my request. These will be used for constructing geometric models. All the items will help my students round out the school year.
