This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What better way to have students work together than to have them create large, visually stunning posters that educate their fellow classmates?

I teach Biology and freshman science in a major inner city/urban public school where over 50% of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunches.

Our students are expected to develop the high-level, critical thinking skills necessary for success in college and life in the 21st century. I teach within a small learning community that focuses on the environment and sustainable living as a core philosophy.

My Project

With your help, my students will be able to create large posters and use them to teach the class. By working cooperatively, they develop teamwork and listening skills. Knowing that they will be presenting their work to the class ensures that not only will they know the subject matter that they are studying, but they also take great care in creating something that they are proud to stand next to. Previous donors have provided markers, colored pencils, and other supplies, so all we need is the paper to continue with a learning strategy that I have found to be very successful.

This is an opportunity to give students a chance to develop teamwork, listening, and oral presentation skills.

Not only have my students grown and matured as public speakers, but these posters have proved very successful and "encouraging" my students to learn. Finally, I've always used this opportunity to explain to my students the importance of philanthropy, and of "paying it forward" by making the most of their educational opportunities.
