My Students
I want my classroom to be a place where all students feel safe and accepted. The best way to do that is to teach the children how to treat one another and to create a positive learning climate where the students feel like shining stars.
I teach twenty-two second graders in a very large elementary school.
We have approximately 700 students enrolled in our K-5 building. Each grade level has 100+ students in it. There can be over three hundred students on each playground during morning and lunch recesses! That means there are lots of interactions between groups of students.
My Project
My project involves sharing books about bullying with my students and how bullying affects others. I have requested several great books including Townsend Press's book called Bullying in Schools. Once I finish sharing the books with the children, we will talk about the characteristics of a good friend and how they can be good friends to one another. My goal is to recognize and document the positive behaviors that I see my students exhibiting in the classroom and throughout the school with stickers, certificates and photo emails.
I have intentionally selected star themed rewards, posters, banners, borders and nametags so each child in my classroom will feel like a star. This will help make our classroom a very positive place for each child all year long.
I want to use the camera to create photo rewards and emails to send home to parents recognizing good citizenship within our classroom. I will also be able to make class slideshows to share with the students and parents.
Bullying is prevalent in schools across the country.
I want my students to learn through this project how hurtful bullying can be and to try hard each day to be good friends instead. Each student in my room will feel like a star with all of the posters, banners and stickers that I have requested. I will take lots of photos and make every child in my classroom feel extra special. School should be a safe and caring place for every child and this project will help all my students feel special.
