I teach in a rural community that serves a variety of students with varied abilities. I teach a wonderful community of first graders! In our classroom, each student is valued and an essential component of what makes our classroom team. In our classroom, TEAM means Together, Everyone Achieves More! We work together, play together, read together, write together, smile together, learn together; yet, most importantly, succeed together!
"Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is a progress, working together is a success!"
When you were in school, what incentive(s) motivated you? For my students, they are motivated by classroom celebrations! In response to our current pandemic, we have transitioned our educational models of teaching/learning. Students are required to complete both in-class and virtual learning activities. As we've progressed throughout the year, there has been a slight decline in participation and completion of our hybrid model outcomes. This project is designed to combat that decline and offer students a variety of positive incentives; that not only encourages them to reach their successes, but, too, correlates with our Financial Literacy/Economics objectives! I have implemented many reward systems to help teach Financial Literacy/Economics. Our main classroom economy system is aligned with ClassDojo (used virtually AND in-class as a classroom rewards system). Students can earn points for their good choices (such as completion of assignments, behavior, etc.). They can redeem their points for prizes/incentives; and too, with the success of this project, earn participation in our monthly classroom celebration (to celebrate their successes and overall outcomes)! Students will be offered a sweet treat station to provide the incentives during our monthly classroom celebration. The sweet treats will include a variety of items such as cotton candy, ice cream, snow cones, and much more!
This project is designed to provide direct student benefit, encourage achievement(s) of specified learning outcomes, provide PBIS incentives, correlate our Financial Literacy/Economics objectives, and enhance our, overall, virtual AND in-person learning experiences!
