My Students

I am in my seventh year of teaching and I have taught kindergarten through fifth grade.

The one thing that I've found is common throughout all of the grade levels that I have taught is that in order to be successful, students need to feel a sense of belonging in the classroom and to feel safe and respected. Every year I try to improve my classroom management skills to ensure my students' success. It is my job as a teacher to not only teach my students about math and language arts but also how to be successful members of their community.

My Project

I am requesting funding to attend the Positive Discipline in the Classroom workshop being held in San Diego, California so that I am better able to implement this research-based classroom management program. This program has been shown to empower teachers with skills to build their students’ sense of community, prepare them for successful living, and increase academic achievement. I am also requesting books on classroom management and implementing Common Core. I hope to become stronger in my classroom management skills and my understanding of Common Core standards.

The learning methods I acquire will give me skills to help students practice better cooperation, social skills, self-direction, responsibility, and mutual respect in the classroom and help them master the Common Core standards.
