Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Social Studies students range from 6th-8th grade. They have a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds as well as learning needs. But what we all share is our curiosity for historical events and other cultures. In our inquiry into ancient civilizations, early exploration and colonization to current issues in our country we have explored and learned how time and humans have impacted on history.
My students have begun to realize that Social Studies is a subject that is "multi-generational" and "multicultural".
Specifically that when they discuss any topic in class they have observed that issues are pervasive throughout generations and people of diverse cultures. They can now "join in" the conversation at the "dinner table" and cite from their knowledge of history and current events with some meaningful input.
My Project
My students have special needs which range from learning disability to behavioral or language issues, however, as a result of their poor reading and writing skills it is more frustrating for them to do research and at times to even understand the material that their queries yield. It usually frustrates them because it takes a long time to understand or to produce material that other students are able to comprehend in an instant. Which manifest in frustration and not completing their assignments.
I am requesting Chromebook devices because these items would provide my students with the ability to have instant interaction with inclusive technology and learning devices.
They can use these devices without having to decipher the information or having to ask for assistance and even more importantly by maintaining, "a positive attitude towards learning." Having these devices in my classroom will help my students become more independent and make learning and interacting with the lessons more fun and expressive.
