My Students
For the past three years I have had the joy of teaching wonderful and creative second graders. When they move to third grade they take with them a portfolio that shows how much they've grown. You can help this year's class create portfolios too!
I am the lucky teacher of 28 second graders.
My students come from more than ten different countries and speak 14 different home languages! My school focuses on immigrant, refugee, and neighborhood students. Over 85% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My students deserve high quality materials and experiences, which are often denied to them due to home and school budget issues. You can help give them the high quality educational experiences they deserve.
My Project
Creating a portfolio is a valuable tool for both the student and teacher alike. Each week I collect all the work that students complete and they select one piece to enter into their portfolio. Before they three-hole punch the piece or slip it into a sheet protector they complete a reflective writing on why they want to keep that piece in their portfolio. As their teacher, I also select pieces. As the year goes on we can reflect on growth that has occurred and be proud of the learning we have accomplished!
Each year my students take pride in the portfolios that they create throughout the year.
At the end of the year they flip through each page remembering all of their successes throughout the year. With your support and generosity another class of amazing second graders can create portfolios!
