This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is a safe, nurturing space. My English Language Learners benefit from being active in their learning, which involves collaboration and discovery with their peers! These portable wedge chairs can be rearranged to easily move in and out of different centers in the classroom.
Our building is the oldest school building in the city, but we all do our part to make it a clean, vibrant and safe environment for our students.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. My diverse, inner-city students come from all backgrounds and countries, and this year all of them are English Language Learners. My students have an eagerness in them to learn English and grow no matter their circumstances, which makes me strive even more to bring them the beneficial resources they deserve.
My Project
Students will use these portable wedges often to navigate around the classroom in different groupings more easily. Students will be able to pull up a wedge and join a group while listening to a story, or move one to a group while stamping words. I am working towards creating a collaborative classroom space with flexible seating students can choose from. This will allow my English language learners to practice their communication skills and share ideas more easily!
This project will change students' lives for the better because they will have additional tools to help them become more mobile during centers and encourage more collaborative experiences in the classroom.
English language learners need to feel comfortable in the classroom in order to practice the language and interact with their peers. These soft wedges will help them pull up a seat to collaborate and share their ideas!
