Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a school for students with autism and there are five sites. My day begins in one elementary school to serve 5 students with autism and then I go high school to teach 9 students. When I go there, I don't have a Smartboard nor any computer, so it is really difficult to teach them.
I am teaching in district 75 school in Bronx.
We are servicing from pre-K through 12 (21 yrs). My students' learning ability varies depends on their cognitive ability. Some students can't even hold a pencil but some students are thriving in inclusion class and working on near grade level work. My high school students need a laptop so they can be connected to the world through accessible Internet, so they can do research for their paper. Since I am working in three sites, it is really challenging to find a room with all the technology that is available.
My Project
If I get the laptop, I will carry it with me from site to site to teach them how to share their Google document with me through Google Drive so I can keep track on their writing progress and give them instant feedback during my prep. Half of my high school students are able to express their thoughts and ideas in writing and navigate in Internet to find information for their paper.
My students can improve writing and be comfortable with the most up to date technology equipment.
This project will help me to give instant feedback to my students' work. Thus, they can revise their work and the work will be saved instantly. Many of my students' socioeconomic status is in below poverty so they can't buy USB to save their work and print. It is really hard for me to interact with all of my students since I am working in three sites. However, it will be possible through technology.
