Portable Academics

My students need a laptop computer with carrying case and one digital camera.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Cook's classroom raised $841

This project is fully funded

"My elementary school is a Title 1 school with about 93% of its students receiving free or reduced lunch, as well as living below poverty level. I am a third grade teacher. My class consists of about 24 students.

A majority of students in my class don't have access to a computer at home. They spend a lot of time just watching TV. My students get a minimal amount time to use the computers for research or for playing educational games during the school day. Since I only have a few computers in my class, the students have to take turns and alternate days in which they get time on the computers. They need more time for research and enrichment activities. An extra computer in the class would improve the availability of technology to the students. The digital camera would be used for gathering pictures and memories that are made throughout the year to share with parents and many others within the school district.

By having a laptop in the classroom, the students would have the opportunity to conduct research at their desks, as well as, take part in academics outside under the pavilion for outdoor lessons. Students would use the laptop and digital camera to make and present classroom PowerPoint presentations. Also, those students that do not have a computer could check-out the computer for the night and use it to complete classroom assignments, research, or use with educational software for remediation or enrichment. The students could use the digital camera to take pictures of events that occur during the school year. The students could use the laptop to manipulate their pictures to use with their assignments or for the class book that they will share on family nights at our school.

Your generosity with supporting this grant would make it possible for technology to enhance the curriculum. Students would be able to learn from a variety of formats. Also, the students would be able to use the laptop for making their own PowerPoint's which would include pictures that they would take with the digital camera. The students would love the opportunity to have portable technology in the classroom. Technology can be a useful tool in the classroom. Technology offers a new outlet for learning because all students have different learning styles. The laptop and digital camera would give new opportunities for reaching students and promoting a life long learning for all.
