My Students
"I wanna pop some brains. Only there's not enough in the budget. I, I, I'm hunting, looking for some donors. That'd be really awesome." (Yes, that is my modified version of "Thrift Shop," one of my students' favorite songs.)
I work with a great group of 21 English language learners in grades K-5.
My students speak Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Hmong, and English. They are working hard to master the skills they need to be successful in life. Many of my students receive free or reduced lunch and come from difficult home situations. Despite this, they come to school everyday motivated and ready to learn.
I love coming to school each day to work with such hard-working students who are so excited to learn. They attend a large school of about 1000 students. We have a great school that has recently been designated by our state as a reward school for our students' high achievement and our work at closing the achievement gap. You can help us continue to improve!
My Project
My students love BrainPop! This past school year I received a one year subscription through Donors Choose to BrainPop, and it was a great addition to our classroom. BrainPop is an awesome website that has fun and engaging animated educational videos from all content areas. It also has activities and games aligned to the standards. Because I work with language learners, many of my students lack the essential background information that would help them understand the content in their mainstream classrooms. With BrainPop, I am able to show them fun videos geared towards what they are learning in their classes to help bring them up to speed. My students are so excited on days we get to watch BrainPop videos.
Help me pop some brains!
This subscription would really help build my students' background knowledge while having fun at the same time. Digital courseware and eBooks are the future of education. Please consider donating to help bring BrainPop to my students. Even a donation of $1 will make a big difference! Thank you!
